PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1999--Intelig, the new operator
that will be providing long-distance services to Brazilian users by
the end of 1999, has chosen Alcatel as prime contractor for its
telecommunications network. The three-year contract is valued at EUR
346 million (US $360 million) and includes products, services and
start-up network operation.
In addition to the management of the project, Alcatel will also

switching, data, customer care and billing of important international
suppliers. The Alcatel technologies chosen by Intelig cover a wide
range of services, including DWDM and SDH products, the optical fiber
network, land satellite stations, intelligent network, call centers
and signaling transfer points.
Intelig's project is to provide in Brazil the most innovative
international telecommunications solutions, products and services
based on leading technologies and first-class customer service,
thereby establishing a new standard in the Brazilian
telecommunications market.
Christian Tournier, President of Alcatel's network services
activities, stated: "This contract is a recognition of Alcatel's
capabilities in fully meeting the requirements and needs of long
distance operators. Intelig has an ambitious project for Brazil, with
innovative solutions to meet the increasingly demanding Brazilian
market. Intelig's decision to choose Alcatel as prime contractor is
the result of a successful client services plan, offering not only
technology experts but also experts in design and financing, who
helped Intelig reach its strategic business goals."
By the end of 1999, Intelig Telecomunicacoes Limitada - a joint
venture between National Grid Group PLC (50%), France Telecom SA (25%)
and Sprint Corporation (25%) - will be providing services to 39
