I must agree with our young friend on this one.Do you honestly believe that allowing the populace to own and carry any type of weapon would in any way have deterred <<our government's actions at Wounded Knee and Waco >>? or any place else for that matter? Mean while the public is threatened by the possibility of nuts going off the deep end..... I do believe that gun control is not as simple as I am implying. The self defense argument is another issue altogether and needs considerable rational . None the less the argument that we need guns to protect us from our government is not a valid one IMO. What really protects us from the government on a large scale is the constitution and the populace's [in general ] support of it. I think it would be unlikely that we would ever see large scale government oppression as the military is by and large a civilian force and would be unlikely to comply. On a smaller scale the courts will [with exceptions of course ] be our salvation. That this Democracy has lasted this long is a tribute that can never be over stated to the brilliance and vision of our founding fathers. pez
