Virtually every major advance in technology has been pushed forward faster due to the "unseemly" use of that technology for pornography. I don't see how that has a good/bad component to it. If early adopters choose to utilize a product for carnal pleasures...more power to them. The likelihood is they will make alot of money early, and many of them will use that cash to move into the next, more commercial, phase. AAPL, for better or worse, has provided infrastructure that propels this forward. It isn't a bad thing. I consider it a good thing. And he isn't wrong, either. The likelihood is that porno is going to get even bigger. What you'd miss at this point, if you're not paying attention, is how the other uses of the product will make even more money. Porno on the 'net isn't the overwhelming product it once was. It used to be 80% of all revenues and advertising. The last I saw, it's less than 15%. Shows how commercial uses push this stuff to the side. Still, at 15%, it is still a large money winner and is making more money than ever before.
So, his point is well taken......just short sighted, IMHO. |
