Emulex to Demonstrate 2Gb/s Fibre Channel Hub At Comdex

Industry's First 2Gb/s Hub is Based on Patented Digital Technology

COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1999--Emulex Corp. (NASDAQ:EMLX - news), a leader in fibre channel technology and products, Wednesday announced that it will demonstrate the industry's first 2Gb/s fibre channel hub at
Comdex.

The Emulex hub is the first SAN element to operate at this higher data rate and is a key enabler for planned 2Gb/s Storage Area Networks (SAN). The hub used in the demonstration is based on Emulex's patented digital ASIC technology and is the basis of planned Emulex hub products. The Emulex technology is fully backwards compatible with today's 1Gb/s fibre channel standard, yet capable of providing up to 400MB/s bandwidth on a single loop when operating at 2Gb/s.

``Emulex has proven itself to be a leader in developing innovative products for the SAN industry,' said Ed Frymoyer, president of emf Associates. ``Hubs play a key role in SAN deployment, and Emulex's demonstration of 2Gb/s shows that the industry can move to higher fibre channel data rates with the required interconnect elements in place.'

``This demonstration of the industry's first 2Gb/s fibre channel hub reflects our commitment to technology leadership,' said Mike Smith, vice president of worldwide marketing for Emulex. ``As fibre channel becomes widely deployed, there is increasing interest in moving to higher data rates. Our digital hub technology is a key to implementing robust, interoperable SANs at either 1Gb or 2Gb speeds,' he added.
