nope, you're right. The government would squash anyone with weapons without hesitation. They only hesitated for a few days before roasting the folks at Waco.
The only simple answer is there is no simple answer. The law enforcement agencies respond after the criminal has acted (too late to save your butt if violence was done). And it's not the fault of the law guys. They respond as quickly as they can. And, we really don't want a police state here, do we?
There are cities in this country where you had not better go after dark (regardless of your race or sex) unless you are prepared to defend yourself. If you are the "victim profile" type, you're in deep doo-doo, even if you are armed. The cliche' says "it's a jungle out there." Bubba, they ain't kidding.
Imagine for a moment you and your family are in a major city. You've just left some type of attraction that lasted late into the evening. You, your wife, and your children are in your vehicle headed home. On the freeway through one of the less respectable areas of town, the vehicle in front of you zig-zags, you miss seeing what he dodged and you run over a piece of steel that punctures your tire.
You guide your car to the side of the road, stopping by an overpass. When you get out to assess the damage, you notice a couple of unsavory types lurking closeby. You open the rear of your vehicle to access your spare tire, retrieve it, get the jack from its storage area and go to work.
Your wife screams as the unsavory types pull her from the car and look at you with an evil grin as one huge evil looking dude puts his hand up her skirt.
Wanta' borrow my 9 millimeter? Think you're gonna talk 'em out of whatever it is they want? Do you still believe in gun control?
Or, maybe, you never go anywhere. Then, they kick in the front door (and yes, the alarm goes off) but they 3 or 4 minutes is a long time. Time enough to whack you upside the head, find your money, fondle your women, and leave laughing out the back door long before the local law arrives.
Get real. These things happen every day in many cities in this country. In Texas, you are not supposed to shoot people unless you are in fear of your life or your family's life. And you may have to prove it. As for me, I'd rather have to prove it than bury a loved one or listen to their screams. |
