To meet my needs a broker has to execute a trade immediately. I don't want the trade to be held for a minute or two before it goes in. I want immediate confirmation of the price of the fill. They must want and meet the needs of a day trader. Competitive money market rates. I keep a large balance for the times that I want to buy big. Flat rate commissions for a large number of shares. (at least 5,000) At first when you read the reviews at the two main sites that rate brokers, it would seem that many brokers could meet these needs. But when you look at the postings by individual traders, there seems to be 80% horror stories. We all have problems with our brokers on occasion. I just want to minimize them. I put too much time into investing to want to deal with sloppy practices by a brokerage firm that serves to do nothing but aggravate me.
