Compaq Computer to advertise on ATMs
BALTIMORE, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp., (NYSE:CPQ - news) seeking yet another advertising venue, will place ads on automatic teller machines across the United States, ATM Advertising, Inc., a national sales and brokerage agency, said on Wednesday.
The Baltimore-based company said more than 1,700 ATMs in six markets will carry Compaq's advertising this month and next in full-color, on-screen messages. They will be reinforced through full-color and black-and-white receipts.
The advertising message is displayed during the ''Welcome'' screen on the ATM, during the ''Please wait while your transaction is being processed screen,'' or both.
''ATMs are nonstop operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we're pleased our clients saw the connection,'' said ATM Advertising, Inc. President Mike Szimanski. ''ATMs offer specific marketing strengths, solid demographic data, the undivided attention of the consumer during the transaction, and diverse location options.''
Simon Eastwick, a spokesman for Houston-based Compaq, said the deal was part of the computer maker's $60 million advertising campaign for the fourth quarter. ''ATM advertising is a very targeted market for us,'' he said.
