NOV 10, 1999, M2 Communications - London -- Today Virtualplus, the leading supplier of outsourced telecom services, announced that it had reached over 500,000 unified messaging mailboxes under management; the largest known implementation in the world.
Virtualplus provides outsourced, branded enhanced telecom services such as Unified messaging, Internet Voicemail, Internet Fax and E-mail. The 500,000 UM boxes includes their own brand Messagepoint, as well as allocations amongst some of its outsourced clients such as X-Stream (the 2nd largest ISP in the UK). Vice President of Operations and Founder of Virtualplus, Joanne Pitcher, comments "Virtualplus has been very much pioneering the field of unified messaging up till now, but recently we are migrating to a period of 'settlement' as UM becomes more well known. We will of course be actively maintaining our lead here, as well as looking to broaden our range of telecoms solutions provided."
Virtualplus is operating in a market which the International Data Corporation recently reported "will explode from a mere 35,000 Unified Messaging mailboxes in 1998 to 25.4 million by 2003". During that same time frame, end-user revenues earned from these services will increase fast and furiously - from $7.6 million to $1.9 billion". In addition to the IDC projections, Mary-Ann O'Loughlin, from Ovum research, estimates the market for unified messaging services will exceed to $31 billion by 2006. Virtualplus' technology is ready to thrive and maintain its leadership position, as unified messaging explodes in the market place.
