RE: standards. I am reminded of the late 1980's when standards bodies were publishing POSIX and OSI standards for operating systems and communications. DoD adopted the standards almost immediately. European companies jumped on the bandwagon soon after. MSFT, SUNW, and a few others rolled right over the top of the standards, smashing them in the dirt with Windows, Unix, and TCP/IP.
