Seems to me that Compaq is caught between a rock and a hard place if they want to use the phrase "Legacy-free PC." Since this means to many (it may even be in Intel's "official" specs) "No floppy drive," then there had better be something which can read floppies somewhere. There are still useful programs on floppies, although not necessarily the latest and greatest versions (pcAnywhere is an example, 9.0 is on a CD, but I'm still using 7.5, on 4 floppies) and not everyone wants to buy all new programs when they change machines. I have no idea how much a USB floppy costs, but I bet it's more than $15.

On another note, IOM had better come out quickly (i.e., NOW) with a way to transfer data to a Clik! disk using a Zip drive if they want this one to catch on. I'd love to have a PCcard Clik! for my laptop but how am I going to get the stuff to it from the desktop w/o connecting the two machines through a slow cable, getting a portable Zip for the laptop, or a second Clik! for the desktop? This, IMHO, is a major problem for those of us who can't afford to duplicate all of our hardware.
