BellSouth Calls on Comshare to Streamline FCC Reporting Process; Comshare Delivers Flexible, Timely Financial Reporting and Analysis Solution to BellSouth Telecommunications

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1999--BellSouth Telecommunications, headquartered in Atlanta, GA, has chosen Comshare Decision(TM) to help streamline its regulatory reporting process.

Comshare(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:CSRE) provides software solutions for management planning and control (MPC) -- which includes planning, budgeting, financial consolidation, management reporting and analysis

-- to provide more flexible financial reporting and analysis tools in step with the latest technology.

Decision Expedites BellSouth's FCC Reporting Requirements

Previously, BellSouth used two different mainframe systems, which fed a server system, to meet its regulatory reporting requirements. Each system did part of the work necessary to produce accounting information for state and federal regulators. Bell South purchased Comshare Decision to merge the mainframe processes.

"Our goal was to create a more streamlined environment with valuable reporting and analysis flexibility," said Emily Jorgenson, BellSouth finance regulatory manager. "We wanted a software package that allowed us to house historical information, process large separations procedures monthly, and produce reports quickly."

Comshare Decision has helped BellSouth reach its goal by enabling users to do account analysis and ad hoc querying while also giving them the ability to create formal reports.

Comshare's Innovative, Built-in Guided Analysis Capabilities Add

Value

BellSouth users need business critical information readily available to respond to information requests. In addition, they need to provide analytical information quickly. Comshare's built-in Guided Analysis(TM) capabilities, especially those that automatically monitor BellSouth data, have proven especially useful. The Comshare application is designed to detect changes and patterns in the data that decision-makers should be alerted to. As a result, Comshare Decision adds a great deal of flexibility to BellSouth processes and helps users analyze variances faster.

Comshare Decision's built-in analytic capabilities do not stop with the routine surveillance of data. Its powerful "what-if" capability will help BellSouth put information in better perspective for decision-making. "A need to do 'what-if' analysis was an important factor for us," says Jorgenson. The Comshare solution will allow Jorgenson and her team to create some adjusted historical information they couldn't do before.
