Thinking about how the BYND situation impacts DRIV -
It seems to me that because of BYND's higher profile (remember the day the CEO appeared naked on his CNBC interview?), one of the big events for Digital River will be when institutional investors stop thinking that these companies are similar. As you point out, their business models are entirely different. Obviously the stock price divergence says we're making progress. And just look at the two charts! One is quite positive; the other as ugly as it gets.
The next big step will be - I'm hoping - when the investment world discovers some of the big name partnerships. Those of us who follow every little announcement know all about Dell and Wal-Mart, but what happens when, for example, the WSJ runs an article discussing how DRIV fits in with WMT's strategy of responding to the Amazon challenge?
I'm not talking about a quick opening pop but rather what happens when mutual fund managers see that they need exposure in the digital download area. When they see that bandwidth is arriving sooner rather than later. When they see that satellites and cable will download into Tivo type systems. When Tv's start being sold with harddrives.
Just dreaming and obviously as bullish as ever
