COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1999-- Emulex Corp. (NASDAQ:EMLX - news), a leader in fibre channel technology and products, Thursday announced it is partnering with Eurologic, Finisar and Seagate Technology to demonstrate a 2Gb/s fibre channel SAN solution during Comdex.
In this demonstration, the Emulex LightPulse(TM) fibre channel host adapter and digital re-timing hub will operate in conjunction with Eurologic's data storage system, Finisar's GBIC and fibre channel analyzer, and Seagate disc drives, all operating at 2Gb/s data rate.
The Emulex technology used in the demonstration is based on the market-leading LightPulse architecture, and is the basis of planned Emulex host adapter and hub products. The Emulex technology is fully backwards compatible with today's 1Gb/s fibre channel standard, yet capable of providing up to 400MB/s bandwidth on a single link when operating at 2Gb/s full-duplex. The host adapter used in the demonstration uses Emulex's currently released Windows NT driver that is compatible with the LP8000 and LP7000E host adapters.
``Working with Emulex, we've been able to make important progress developing 2Gb/s technology for our disc drives and ensure interoperability with a market leading host adapter supplier,' said Sherman Black, Seagate vice president of Enterprise Product Line Management.
``This demonstration highlights the performance capabilities of future fibre channel data rates, and reinforces the technology leadership of both Seagate and Emulex.'
``We're pleased to be working with industry leaders to demonstrate 2Gb/s technology at Comdex. As the world's leading disc drive manufacturer, Seagate plays an important role in driving the fibre channel standard, while Eurologic and Finisar develop products critical to the deployment of robust, interoperable SANs,' said Mike Smith, vice president of worldwide marketing for Emulex. ``With this demonstration, we've been able to leverage our commercially available products and develop technology that will provide significant performance improvements for fibre channel SANs, while maintaining interoperability with existing fibre channel infrastructure,' he added. |
