Runner,
My plumber who is involved in ham radio, recently had a John Deere Diesel Tractor engine installed in his late 70's Ford pickup. If he remembers to store some fuel for it, he'll be all set. Unfortunately it leaks all kinds of foul fluids on my asphalt driveway. He should be able to drive and talk, but not at the same time. People ask why I moved from California to NC, the heavy hand of the EPA and the local Air Quality Management Districts had some to do with it. The Ford John Deere would be impossible on the left coast.

Here we installed a Bosch Aquastar tankless gas water heater and a small apartment sized gas stove in the basement, and a propane tank outside If power is rationed, I hope it'll go to the water plant first so they can pump it further up the mountain behind my house to the municipal storage tanks. I'll count on God and gravity to do the rest. We don't have all the bugs worked out of the Aquastar. It is hooked up in "parallel" with my 12 year old electric water heater. We should be able to manipulate a series of valves and have one or the other or both. My wife enjoyed a warm bath this morning, but my shower was cold. Unfortunately the valves are manual, and not in my shower. There are kinks still to be ironed. This would be a great application for my favorite new technology: Echelon's LonWorks distributed contol networks.
