Tandy sees Microsoft deal boosting revs

November 11, 1999 12:03 PM
SEATTLE, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Tandy Corp. Chief Executive Len Roberts said on Thursday he expects the alliance with Microsoft Corp. MSFT to boost Tandy's recurring revenue stream to $250 million by 2004, from $60 million this year.

"This is all about recurring revenues for us," Roberts said on CNN.

Tandy defines recurring revenues as the steady flow of monthly or annual subscriber fees that it shares with service providers.

Roberts said on Thursday that recurring revenues from sales of wireless phone contracts, Internet access and other services would rise to between $90 million and $100 million next year.

"This is a huge, huge opportunity for us," Roberts said later in a conference call with analysts and reporters.

Microsoft President Steve Ballmer said in the call that the software giant would be making an unspecified capital investment to equip the Microsoft "store within a store" planned for up to 7,000 of Tandy's RadioShack outlets.

Ballmer said Microsoft would share in ongoing revenues generated in the RadioShack stores.
