I was thinking that maybe it was the marbles that did it. I remember that you couldn't get good marbles anymore, all they had was cats-eyes. I wonder what happened? I bet there's a web page about it. When my mother was a kid, the boys played mumblety-peg. She says her cousin Harvey was playing mumblety-peg, sitting on a stump, and the knife got him right through his you-know-what. But I always thought she made that up to scare us from playing with knives.
