I have named specific individuals (e.g., Mandela, Borges, Marquez), as have others. The point is that one man's influential is another man's peripheral. No doubt it is quite true that the people on your list have most influenced you. But that would not be true of me, even though we are both citizens of the same country. And it would be even less true of someone from China, which is, after all, the most populous country in the world...
