Our most popular marble game was called Spider. Four small holes
were dug in the dirt about 3 feet apart, something like this ...

O O

O

O O

_ (starting line)

The idea was to shoot your marble into the holes in sequence, with
undoubtedly some complicating rules that I've long forgotten.

Another marble game was Keeps, which involved winning and keeping
your opponents' marbles. The school principal determined that this
game involved gambling and banned it from the playground. 'Twas in
the '50s, long before the Parent Lawsuit came into vogue.
