Almost anyone's list of the influential writers of the modern age includes Yeats. His poetry is probably the most often quoted poetry. He was not only a poet, but a dramatist. One can argue his play Cathleen ni Houlihan was instrumental in the 1916 uprising. We still live with the effects of the Cult of 1916 today. His creative power has had a lasting effect.

Hesse is not without merit. But he is certainly overshadowed by Yeats. How lasting has his impact been? He introduced Eastern mysticism to Western literature, which was interesting, but who outside of some weed puffing college kids from the 60's and 70's really cares?
