CyberShop.com launches new Pokemon toy center Reuters Story - November 11, 1999 13:17 JERSEY CITY, N.J., Nov 11 (Reuters) - Online retailer CyberShop.com Inc. said Thursday it opened the virtual doors to its Pokemon toy center in hopes of boosting its holiday sales.
Shares of CyberShop.com were up 3/4 at 10-3/8 on the Nasdaq stock market.
Pikachu -- and his 150 Pocket Monster friends -- landed on U.S. shores about 14 months ago and this year is expected to generate $6 billion in sales from video games, toys, trading cards and an animated feature film.
The Jersey City, N.J.-based CyberShop.com said it designed the Pokemon site to help parents avoid the confusion of choosing from a myriad of toys by creating three packages -- Trainer, Evolution and Master -- featuring nine items.
The company said by buying the packages from the site (www.cybershop.com/pokemon) parents will pay a lower total cost than if they purchased each item separately.
The Trainer package, which includes Pikachu Plush, Pokemon desk set, a Pokemon watch, and Ash's Ball Cap, costs $49.99. The Evolution package has the same items as the Trainer, adding Topps Pokemon trading cards and trading card display book, and goes for $59.99.
The Master package, which includes all items in the Trainer and Evolution packages plus a Pokemon storage tin, two video tapes and a Pokemon key chain, costs $99.99.
