thread host, thread creator, the one who started the thread.. Most thread 'hosts' stick to their own threads and very rarely step off. I don't usually step off. Only on the rare occasion when someone constitutes what I feel is a breach of the SI terms of use. I feel even that is too much. The 'too much in our faces' thread hosts are getting to be somewhat of a drag. Its usually one or all three reasons they appear
a) defensive posturing when they feel someone breaches terms of use and they get into the defense.
b) whining and complaining or just gloating or glorifying in a 'power' of what they will do when they will be in control. Espousing their theories, personal off topic banter, which is counterproductive to the ordinary daily stock picking and analysis.
c) canvassing for 'bookmarks'.. like they were bottlecaps
I am guilty of a) and if there is such a by-law SI won't be inundated with those that are guilty of a, b, and c.. It gives a bad name to thread 'hosts' especially if they have the unfortunate belief of thinking they are 'hot' which they are not. The serious thread hosts just want to be left alone to go about their business of trading, and educating. They dont care about campaigns, posts etc. They should remain on their threads as the very exceptional thread hosts do.
I also don't believe thread hosts should be allowed to ban anyone from their threads because who knows if the host him or herself is in need of banning or just using that 'authority' to be a mayor or autocrat... I don't believe in censorship per se, but I feel a thread host who has the ability to ban should exemplify good language, objective opinions and be a sort of loosely based 'role model' for the thread. There is nothing wrong with professional and proper conduct. It is what will make SI great.. Foul language, temper tantrums, was not in the schematics of those that saw the vision of SI. I've tried other forums just to compare, nothing compares with SI. Just try some of the newest ones, then you will appreciate what we have here.
I like the idea of having possible multiple threads but I don't believe certain thread hosts are responsible enough to 'govern' their threads. I would easily relinquish this dubious power. |
