Net will boost traditional media

(Hi Phil),

Thought for the day....

Net will boost traditional media

The Internet is not cannibalizing radio, television and newspapers, according to an extensive research report from media industry merchant bankers Veronis, Suhler & Associates. In fact, the firm's latest research says consumers will increase their time with traditional media by 30 minutes between now and 2003. Per capita use of the Internet jumped from 28 hours per annum in 1997 to 74 in 1998 and is forecast by the bankers to reach 192 hours by 2003. Veronis, Suhler also said the Net will stimulate media use by making business information more easily accessible, generating "strong growth" for direct sales of items such as books, music, and computer games, and making it easier to access newspapers, and radio and TV programs which are streamed over the Web.
