It was not mentioned in the ZDNET article, but was mentioned in the Computer Reseller article. I think k6-3+ with its 256KB on-chip cache would be a slightly higher performance chip than k6-2+(with 128KB L2) and would allow AMD to fill 500, 550 gaps while dropping 500 and 550MHz Athlons. This way, they can cut prices on higher speed grades of Athlons, without decreasing the Athlon ASP. Besides, K6-3 is a very popular chip in Small Business Servers and it's not going to cost them a lot to shift it to .18. Of course, K6-X will disappear once Spitfire enters the scene by the end of the year 2000. Regards, Goutama
