Advanced Micro Devices (AMD:NYSE), the No. 2 chip maker, surprised Wall Street on Thursday by forecasting strong sales for the fourth quarter and indicating that the company might break even.

Does this raise concern with neighboring Intel? Joseph thinks not. "We think Intel and AMD can live together," Joseph said. "AMD is targeting Intel with the Athlon chip. Intel would have to cut prices deeply on the Pentium III, which I don't think they'll do."

Intel's market capitalization is 78 times that of AMD and has a history of aggressive acquisitions to take market share. AMD has about 10% of the microprocessor market.
