Pat,
History is not boring.
This could get serious...my favorite "leisure" reading is History...either pre 1850 English, European and/or early American specifically American Revolution and early American West. Now, on to what I have on SDL...
Remember that this was written in 1995. There isn't much more but here it is:
SDL, Inc. commenced operations in June of 1983 as a joint venture of Xerox Corporation ('Xerox") and Spectra Physics, Inc. ("Spectra Physics"). In July 1992, the Company, with the participation of management and employees, and additional financing assisted by funds associated with the Sprout Group ("Sprout Entities") and with Brinson Partners, Inc.("Brinson Partners") repurchased a majority of the Company's outstanding stock from its corporate owners (the "Recapitalization"). The Company has been profitable on an annual basis since 1985.
SDL, Inc., previously Spectra Diode Laboratories, Inc., was incorporated on March 28, 1983 for the development, manufacture, and sale of semiconductor optoelectronic integrated circuits, semiconductor lasers, and related products. On April 3, 1993, the Company reincorporated in the state of Delaware and changed its name to SDL, Inc. The reincorporation has been retroactively reflected in the financial statements and notes.
I was incorrect in assuming that the name change happened in 1995. The remainder is all now outdated financial data.
I have the annual reports from '96, '97 and '98 and if there is anything in those that you think you might want I will be glad to look the information up.
Catch you later,
