American Power Conversion Launches First Outsourced 24 x 7 Power Protection Remote Monitoring Solution with Web-based Customized Event Escalation

WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on its commitment to provide tailored service programs for MIS and facilities managers, American Power Conversion (APC) introduced today the APC Remote Monitoring Service, an outsourced solution that remotely monitors uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) as well as the systems' environmental conditions. When coupled with other APC service products, the APC Remote Monitoring Service allows APC to detect, escalate and fix UPS problems, in many instances, prior to the customer realizing a problem exists.

APC's Remote Monitoring Service is the power protection industry's first outsourced 24 x 7 remote monitoring solution with Web-based profiling to enhance system availability. Specifically designed for large centralized UPSs in datacenter and facility environments, APC's Remote Monitoring Service enables MIS and facilities managers to use the Web to customize specific procedures for UPS event escalation of APC's Silcon DP300E(R), Symmetra(TM) Power Array(TM), Matrix-UPS(R) or Smart-UPS(R) units. Multi-site customers have the flexibility to uniquely profile each location. Escalation options include paging, phoning or e-mailing the customer, in addition to automatically dispatching an APC service professional or sending spare parts to those customers who have an APC service contract.

"The demand for outsourced services throughout the IT industry, including the power protection segment, continues to grow for two main reasons: fast- growing companies are strapped for internal resources and many customers want the peace-of-mind of knowing that a specialized professional is monitoring their systems, enabling them to focus on their core competencies," said Dwight Sperry, general manager of APC's Enterprise Systems and Services. "APC's ability to remotely diagnose a customer's UPS coupled with APC's unique intelligent UPS systems drive down the mean time to repair (MTTR), thereby improving system availability."

APC's Remote Monitoring Service is conducted via APC's 24 x 7 Monitoring Operations Center (MOC) which is set-up to view countless customer sites and to handle multiple events simultaneously. In addition to monitoring UPS systems, APC's MOC provides environmental monitoring for critical conditions such as high temperature and low humidity. Customers will receive monthly reports summarizing each power event and responses to the problems in addition to immediate escalation of urgent issues.

"APC's Remote Monitoring Service provides us with APC experts monitoring our UPS 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is equivalent to having power professionals on our staff," said Sunny Uk, system administrator at Aspect Telecommunications. "Each power event is handled according to a predefined escalation procedure designed around our requirements."

APC's Remote Monitoring Service further expands APC's comprehensive services offering where customers can choose from an assortment of service programs that leverage APC's decade-long service experience in the network power protection industry and Silcon's more than 30 years service experience in mainframe and facilities UPS systems. APC's comprehensive suite of professional services offer customized products designed to meet the varying availability needs of today's corporations as well as industry-recognized service responsiveness.
