Driller1, valid questions.
Guess we'll have to wait and see how they are answered over the course of the next 3-5 years.
I certainly agree with you that Ultra is one big question mark.
"Gambling" versus "investing." I agree with you that money is a tool to make more money. There are different ways of using it to this end.
For a long time I have been posting that UP is NOT the kind of situation INVESTORS would be interested in, nor is it the kind that quick-profit speculators would be interested in.
However, there are a lot of enterprises which fit in between those two categories. There are people who have some money the loss of which would not leave them financially crippled. Some of the people in this situation might choose to employ some of that money in very-high-risk/possible very-high-reward enterprises.
Even those who are willing to risk some money in very-high-risk enterprises should improve their odds by gaining a thorough knowledge of the field in which they are considering employing their money and by thoroughly researching every aspect of enterprises in that field BEFORE making a decision to put money into any of the enterprises in that field. Otherwise, as you say, it is nothing more than a crap-shoot.
I would guess that a lot of the small investors in Ultra put their money into UP without previously developing this kind of knowledge of the exploration and development field and of what kind of financial resources would be necessary to explore and develop the Green River gas deposits. They read glowingly optimistic, very superficial write-ups in "The Natural Contrarian" and other stock-touting "newsletters" and started drooling, with visions of millions dancing in their heads.
Their folly does not categorically rule out the possibility that at the current price UP might be a risk worth taking. BIG risk, yes. A BIG risk worth taking?? That is a question that only each individual can answer for him/herself after exhaustive research and careful weighing of every conceivable factor.
Apparently, for you, that question has already been answered---in the negative. Good!!! You KNOW that Ultra is not for you. You, for one, are not going to lose any money in Ultra. |
