Re: Yeats.
You know, Neocon, pardon me for mentioning it, but it would help if you occasionally used qualifiers like "in my opinion," "it seems to me," "perhaps," or "may I suggest" or whatever. I know you don't mean to be categorical, but that's how it comes across, and it can get my dander up when I don't agree! <g>
Absolutely disagree with you about Yeats. Go back and read him again -- including his later work. Sounds as if you never got beyond "The Lake Isle of Innisfree." This time around, be sure not to miss "Slouching towards Bethlehem," "Easter 1916," "Sailing to Byzantium," "Lapis Lazuli," and, oh, so many more..
And from the technical point of view, Yeats was much more influential on his fellow poets than Eliot (even though Eliot is also my favorite 20th century poet). Eliot is/was inimitable; practically everybody borrowed from Yeats (especially his expandable cadences, his off-rhymes, etc.)
