Thanks for taking the time. That the problem is the shower floor is what the plumber told me; I have not seen it for myself. The people in the apartment where this is occurring and I are not particularly friendly because they keep very different hours. Very often when they are showering, I am not even at home.

The apartment is not actually above mine. It's cattycorner and I suspect that the damage is mostly to my closet, which is just below the drain, although there may be hidden damage to the apartment next door.

I have repeatedly and grimly pointed out to the owner the probability of progressive damage and dry rot if this is not corrected ASAP. I might as well be talking to a stump. Knowing all of this and not being able to do much except raise some hell is intensely frustrating, as you can imagine.
