Loki -
I seriously doubt if CPQ gave any thought to DELL's earnings announcement when they scheduled the VISTA announcement. The number of days when senior guys from each of the partners are all available is small, they usually have to pick it months in advance.

I always thought it humorous, having been involved in a bunch of launch planning, that anyone would think that an external event like DELL's earnings, or any other thing outside of the direct logistics of the launch, would occupy even one second of the planning team's thinking. Typically those folks are lucky if they can include even the critical internal events in their planning.

On the Vista launch, I was told that there were three dates when the "moon and stars aligned" in terms of executive participation. The original date was in October, just ahead of earnings. But the deals were not all signed in time, so they went to the backup date. The third date was in December.

I saw some similar talk on the DELL thread about CPQ doing PR to disrupt DELL, I think it is nonsense.
