NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1999-- iTurf Inc. (NASDAQ: TURF - news), a network provider of leading Internet sites for Generation Y, today unveiled a preview of its flagship site, iTurf.com. Scheduled for launch in January 2000, iTurf.com will serve as a gateway to the popular Web sites in the iTurf network including gURL.com, OnTap.com, dELiAs.com, droog.com, discountdomain.com and tsisoccer.com. In addition to acting as the hub of the iTurf network, iTurf.com will also contain original content, community offerings, and communication opportunities as well as showcased features from the best of the iTurf network.
At the time of this announcement, iTurf.com provides live links to all the shopping, content and community properties of the iTurf network. Highlights of the preview include one-click access to v-dorm, a live, interactive window into the dorm rooms of college students from around the nation, as well as music video clips and movie trailers. ''What you see today on iTurf.com is just the beginning,'' said Stephen Kahn, President and Chief Executive Officer of iTurf. ''What we're doing is building a value-added gateway to our network of popular sites that will provide Gen Y with a complete lineup of relevant community, content and commerce opportunities under the iTurf umbrella.''
The iTurf network approach is different than other Gen Y destinations on the Web. iTurf executives point to the diversity of the Gen Y demographic and the inherent challenge of providing a compelling experience in an environment that stays true to its users. ''The evolution of our network has proven that the most compelling model for engaging Gen Y is one that provides a rich selection of offerings with an authentic editorial voice that respects our market segment's varied interests and passionate individuality,'' said Kahn. ''Through our network of sites and in the highly personalized environment of iTurf.com, we provide a place of possibility where our users can connect with people like themselves in an environment designed with them in mind.''
As part of the company's dedication to personalization, iTurf elected to develop proprietary systems capabilities to give the company more flexibility. Oliver Sharp, hired from Microsoft to be iTurf's Chief Technical Officer, points out that the iTurf infrastructure will allow the company to continue to outpace its competitors. ''iTurf has elected to create the most dynamic and interactive environment for Gen Y users,'' said Sharp. ''I've been given the opportunity and the resources to build a highly scalable Web infrastructure that has deep database integration. It allows us to continue evolving our sites and our business to match the likes and dislikes of our users.''
