There are a bunch of nasty fundamental issues that Commerce has addressed head-on and I haven't heard anything from Ariba. It could be that Ariba is just secretive about their plans... OR (this is what I suspect) it could be that Ariba doesn't have the handle on the big picture that commerce does. Ariba knocked some cmrc customers out early on (Worldcom)... and made some key alliances - but all that time Commerce was in the background honing their supply chain strategy and moving in on GM. I suspect cmrc let arba think they were winning while all along cmrc had loftier goals.

``Up to now our industry has focused on automation of the fixed-price relationship between buyers and sellers,' Kevin Schick, vice president of product marketing at Commerce One, said in a conference call. ``Our customers now need something that supports them in this new dynamic process.'

CommerceBid.com provides a forum for businesses to auction products to the highest bidder as well as to hold reverse auctions that enable buyers to find suppliers of new goods and services, or to secure better prices for items they already buy.
