DJ Newbridge Acknowledges Talks With France's Alcatel OTTAWA (Dow Jones)--Newbridge Networks Corp. (NN) is in discussions with France's Alcatel SA (ALA), but Newbridge spokesman John Lawlor won't provide specifics about the talks. "I wouldn't say we're not talking to Alcatel. We are," Lawlor told Dow Jones. "But at this point, I wouldn't say we're discussing a takeover. That's how I'd phrase that statement." Lawlor again denied any talks whatsoever with Sweden's L.M. Ericsson Telephone Co. (ERICY). "As I said before, we're not talking to Ericsson right now about anything," Lawlor said. Lawlor added that he's not expecting any major announcements from Newbridge Friday or over the weekend. As reported, Newbridge has been at the center of takeover speculation, and both Alcatel and Ericsson have been rumored potential suitors. In Toronto trading Friday, Kanata, Ont.'s Newbridge is up 4.10 to 30.90 on about 4 million shares.
