I doubt if we will ever go through something like this again in our lives.

I disagree. That's the beauty of investing! There will always be wonderful opportunities if we're patient with our research. They may come along once every few years, five years or ten years depending on how much time we spend looking for the opportunities, but they will always, always be there.

That's exactly why I encourage people new to investing not to succumb to any pressing "need" to make hasty decisions. Take your time learning how to do the research. Think about your capacity for risk. Don't invest beyond that capacity. Master the guess work of valuations. Do more research. Invest a little, not a lot. Do more research. Rethink your capcacity for risk. Invest a little more. Decide if the valuations you learned last year are still approprite for you. Do more research. You get the point. Most of all, take your time.

Heck, I'm just one little investor and this is already my second time around. In November, 1995, Iomega was $2.00 Five months later it was $22. (Not that Iomega is anything comparable to Qualcomm. Had Game been around back then, I would never have bought Iomega.)
