Internet via DSS! Hughes Electronics' DirecTV has anounced that by mid-'96 they will offer internet connections via their Digital Satellite System (DSS). With the DSS prices falling (about $450 for 18" dish plus receiver) will this influence the ADSL and ISDN market? Modem speed is said to be 40 times faster than current POTS modems. DirecTV plans to beat the cable companies to the internet connection market. (source: Home Theater Tech, Jan '96) RCA DSS sales have hit the $1 billion mark in one year!
