I thought the problem was not price but migration problems, i.e. buyer resistance to swapping existing ethernet for ATM at the edge with the devil (fast ethernet) whispering in his ear "go ahead, switch to fast ethernet, its easier". Despite the fact that ATM appears more scaleable as bandwidth requirements grow exponentially, its seems that today's buyer doesnt want to face his responsibility to plan ahead. How many of us make the "easy" choice on a day to day basis, even when we know it will make things harder down the road? I tend to think this is the marketing battle Fore must fight (aggressively) to achieve their goal of widespread ATM on the desktop.
