rudedog: thanks for the clarification. The COMPAQ presentation gave me the impression that it was a more radical departure from the traditional clunky PC box than you have explained. Indeed, several articles have commented that it is an updated version of previous attempts by various companies to produce a "web box". The emphasis is on how it offers a simplified way of accessing the internet. I realise now that given its power and memory and compatibility with Windows 2000 it could carry out most computing functions, but I suppose my impression was that to do this it would need to plug in accessories.

If the DELL web-thingy is also aimed at the consumer market, will COMPAQ produce something similar specifically for consumers and is that likely to be "cooler" in design than the iPaq e.g. in colour, shape, texture, sound, internet content - more like the iMac?
