Victor -
Here's the radical departure - a legacy-free machine needs Windows 2000. It can't even boot on the old OS (either NT or Windows9X).

The part of this announcement that no one has commented on is the very strong commitment to the MSFT OS and MSFT direction implied in this product. That makes it very different than the other products in line from DELL and others and says a lot about the CPQ / MSFT partnership.

I will be watching the Gates COMDEX speech very closely tomorrow to see if they continue to develop that story.

I expect the CPQ consumer team to do some nifty form factors but remember what I said above - a legacy free machine needs Windows 2000. That is not the consumer OS - all those games and toys need Windows9X and the lack of restraint that the old OS allows - so it will be years before that transition happens in the consumer space.
