Yes, we can only offset up to $3000 capital losses tho..that is the most losses we can claim ....of course, none of us stock wizs have to ever claim that...now interest and dividend is taxed at the marginal rate which for me, I think is close to 40%...thus for us economically unchallenged types, it perhaps makes best sense to minimize the dividends and hold your gains for a year...that, incidently is why the market tends to tank by end of November..we sell our losers, thus creating more downward pressure on these sickly stocks anyway and then buy them back 30 days later before year end to get the loss and prevent the wash..hence another reason for the Jan effect and Santa Claus rally we seem to get every year...the end of Nov, thus becomes a great time to buy beaten down stocks which people are discarding, of course assuming the fundamentals remain excellent. idtc may be one such stock
