Animation: International animation company sets up base in Kerala promising to give the best in the field a run for their money
When Toonz Animation India Private Ltd was on the lookout for a location for its sprawling 10,000 ft studio, it ignored Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad and zeroed in on Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. "Nowhere else did we find so much scenic beauty, which is artistically inspiring," said Bill Dennis, CEO of Toonz India and veteran production executive with Walt Disney Feature Animation. The "serenity of public life", array of creative personnel and the Technopark, which proved to be the ideal location for Toonz's high-tech studio, were other factors which worked in the city's favour.
Gracing Toonz India's inaugural were some of the biggest names in the animation world, including Rob Coleman, the animation director of Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace, Derek Lamb, Phil Robinson, Don Hall, Prescott Wright, Ian Diamond, Tod Polson and Ishu Patel, the renowned Canada-based animation director from India.......(continued..)
