Greg:
Perhaps 10 of my relatives/friends follow our discussions on SI
from time to time. Some have said they bgt QCOM because of what was said.
To avoid confusing people, here is the route I took to accumulate Q with your encouragement
3-18-99 Bgt 1 leap zluar at $19 1/2, now = 2 zzuai worth $62,600
3-22-99 bgt 150 Q at 89 1/2
5-17 bgt 50 Q at 103
6-8 bgt 50 Q at 100 1/2
7-7 bgt 20 Q at 143
7-8 bgt 20 Q at 150
8-3 bgt 50 Q at 137
8-18 bgt 30 Q at 169
8-24 bgt 50 Q at 179
8-27 bgt 40 Q at 188
9-1 bgt 20 Q at 167
10-6 bgt 20 Q at 207
10-20 bgt 30 Q at 199
10-29 bgt 20 Q at 224
(I may have sold some of these)
(Along the way I also bgt calls on 12 different days)
I am also following the same general techique on Plcm, Jdsu,
and a couple of others.
Summary, to make a few points here.
1. I did not have to make a sudden decision that Q was the next Dell. Because that was not apparent early on. Just a gradual
shifting of assets to a much faster moving stock.
2. By May, I was 'up' enough on the stock that the apparent
risk of putting more money in it was minimal. Buying after
that was much easier.
3. When Q got above $120 about the same time, a stock split was
was in the future and buying Q was even easier.
4. As always, on a mo-mo stock the price appeared too high,
$100, $200, $300, $400. No problem, just buy fewer shares
5. No safety net here, no covered calls, no puts, no straddles, no daytrading, no guessing an upward limit while its still moving
Magnificent % gains on calls or leaps
6. I am neither a Dellionaire nor Quillionaire, but if I chose either as a goal and maxed out the margin( been there, done that, don't like it) it would be as some say 'Noooooooooo
Problem'. But I choose to go with maybe 6 major stocks,
like Dell,Qcom,Jdsu,Plcm, Csco, Aol and just play with
others that you know about for fun.

A quick comparison of the following charts would show why
I consider the old-line companies to be in deep trouble
trying to retain shareholder interest and sustain stock
prices. (Its not only CPQ in trouble here)(G)
