CPQ has unveiled new internet only machine, called the IPAQ. About half the cost of a PC. Can access web sites, then use power of mainframe computer to do applications, instead of using desktop.
"The IPAQ is designed to interface securely in the internet world and advanced security features are part and parcel of the capabilities of the system. Some of those capabilities are biometrics, fingerprint identification technology," says Michael Capellas.
SUNW has similar machine, but CPQ is largest PC maker. Industry analysts say this means market is there.
Single use machines becoming popular. CPQ coming out with more such products to simplify internet experience. Look for big players like DELL, IBM, and GTW to expand beyond PC. |
