Free music or fee-based?? who will win?

Would you agree that CDNow was the first deviation from traditional distribution procedures of music?

Would you then consider the free download of music to a natural progression? There are two schools of thought, not to mention an agency, the RIAA that has its own strategy to control and restrict the flow of digital music.

Recently, two products, namely Napster and CuteMX, have appeared on the net. they both offer free MP3 file sharing with no restrictions or costs. Neither has been shut down yet by the RIAA. Can we expect these products to gain momentum and if so, will they jeopardize the business models of EMusic and CDNow?
