I agree, it is being overhyped. My top three are "Eyes Wide Shut", "American Beauty", and "Cookies Fortune" (I have not seen "Fight Club" yet),and I would hate to see "Being John Malkovitch" steal awards as well.....I saw a movie tonight that may be my fourth for the year, "The Messenger: the Story of Joan of Arc", directed and co- scripted by Luc Besson, who also did "Le Femme Nikita", "The Professional", and "The Fifth Element". It stars Milla Jovovich, who was the Fifth Element, as Joan; John Malkovitch as the Dauphin; Faye Dunaway as his mother- in- law; and even Dustin Hoffman has a star- turn at the end. It is quite powerful, with some of the best battle scenes of its kind I have ever seen, and some quite beautiful imagery conveying the mystery surrounding Joan. It is agnostic on the issue of Joan's inspiration.... |
