Though it may appease human rights activists who want to cut off funds for Africa?s wars, this move is really aimed at the government of South Africa, which has pressed for more taxes. By threatening to end its purchases in the region, the company could threaten the funding for an important proxy war in neighboring Angola and a temporary rise in prices.
