Names - Do you think they make the person? DId having a name that ends in "i" ordain me to be cute instead of phi beta kappa? If I'd been named Hillary, would I be first lady now? It would be worse to be Myrtle. I think they have to be old maids. No woman could feel very sexy if she were named Myrtle or Hortense. For that matter, it would probably be hard for a man to murmur, "Oh Myrtle, Myrtle" without feeling somewhat ridiculous.
Do you think the name Monica has suffered a sudden decrease in popularity this year?
Not as auditorily? audially? earily? (I made all those up- too lazy to go look and have to get ready for church soon) offensive as Gertrude, but seem to not be around much, are Ruth and Marian. My mother was Marion, which is the male spelling-I never had the nerve to ask her why. Gordon, my father was British- his siblings were Emma, Kate, Rebecca, Cecil, and Benjamin. No one would ever think they came from anywhere else, would they.
Justin is actually a relatively "new" popular name, I thought. Or were you named after the boots? |
