Frank, the reason I mentioned the comments in BARRON'S has nothing to do with whether their comments are reasonable or valid. BARRON'S is widely circulated in the investment community and, for better or worse, reflects a significant amount of opinion within the investment community.

Investors (by which I mean professionals who are involved in managing large funds or trusts) don't like to see firms bogged down in litigation. Just look at what happened to Philip Morris. The stock was in the 70's before factual evidence of fraud (about not knowing the health effects of smoking) was uncovered a few years ago. The shares have lost two-thirds of their value since then.

A similar fate will befall Microsoft unless the company leadership recognizes that it's better for shareholders to settle, rather than continue as if nothing is wrong. Whether or not I like the stock is not important. Whether or not I (and others) see better opportunities elsewhere is.
