Peter, My observation of irrational valuations is not only relevant in the case of 3Com valuation, but actually the only explanation I can come up with. This happens a lot in the market today. The spotlight shines on a few favorites and the vast majority of stocks wallow in anonymity and irrational valuation compared to the few shining stars. In the case of 3Com, the Palm IPO will put the spotlight on Palm and by extension on 3Com, and thus push the market to arrive at a proper valuation.
