Torture in Tibet-

Recently ex-political prisoner and Tibetan monk Palden Gyatso spoke at a college not far from where I live. He described the torture he and other Tibetan monks and nuns endured in the Chinese prisons. He was imprisoned for protesting against the Chinese army 30 years ago. Everyday, he was asked, "Is Tibet a part of China?" and everyday he replied, "No." For this he was tortured on a daily basis.

One of the tools of torture used by the Chinese authorities is an electric shocker closely resembling a stun-gun but with a higher voltage. The guards shocked Palden Gyatso and other Tibetan prisoners with these on the mouth, on the gums, and on the genitalia. Gyatso lost his teeth that way. These barbarian Chinese thugs seemed to take a special interest in applying their chosen instruments to the genitals of their female prisoners. Gyatso noted many of the Tibetan nuns died from instant impact of the shock on their genitalia.

Gyatso noted he bore nothing but love for the Chinese people, a sentiment this poster cannot claim to share.

Yes, there are still political prisoners and Gyatso strongly urged us to work with human rights groups (especially Amnesty International, the group he believes was instrumental in his release although the Chinese gov't. would never admit that) to get others released.

Any government that permits this kind of outrageous behavior is not one with which we (the USA) should have normal relations. And I charge that the brutal thugs in Tibet carrying out this kind of torture are indeed only doing the bidding of top leaders in Beijing. Oh, but let me not incur the wrath of the Lawrence Kams and his compatriots on this thread by referring to such gentlemen as "thugs". Let me simply say those who argue for normal relations with such "leaders" abet the torture and murder of those I may consider as my friends.
