LANCASTER, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 1997--

UpTrade program offers easy migration to x2 technology for many existing modem customers

Cardinal Technologies Monday announced the specifics of the 56 Kbps UpTrade program that will
allow Cardinal customers to trade-in selected 28.8 or 33.6 Kbps modems for new and faster 56 Kbps
(bits per second) Cardinal Connecta(TM) modems featuring x2 technology.

Qualifying customers can purchase a new 56 Kbps modem as low as $89 plus $15 shipping and
handling.

Cardinal named the program an "UpTrade" because it involves a trade for a brand new 56 Kbps
model. The program is designed to be easy for customers by pre-shipping the replacement modem
first so customers can simply replace the modem already in their system and be running at faster
speeds immediately. The program includes pre-paid return shipment of the existing modem back to
the factory.

"This program affirms Cardinal's commitment to its customers by offering upgrades to a new Internet
experience with new 56 Kbps technology," said Kail Krall, product manager for Cardinal. "Our
customers are people who think for themselves and make their own decisions. They know that
Cardinal Connecta modems provide real value."

The UpTrade cost is $89 for a 56 Kbps internal or external data fax modem, $99 for an internal
speakerphone modem, and $109 for an external speakerphone modem. A $15 shipping and handling
charge and appropriate sales tax will be added. The program applies to original purchasers of a
qualifying Cardinal MVP modem purchased after July 1, 1996.

The UpTrade must by ordered by Sept. 1, 1997. Details are available on Cardinal's web page at
cardtech.com .

Perfectly suited for today's bandwidth-intensive Internet applications, Cardinal Connecta modems
offer both industry standard 33.6 Kbps V.34 speeds and x2 technology, developed by U.S.
Robotics, to deliver the Internet to your PC at speeds up to 56 Kbps.

These modems are software upgradable to future industry standards and enhancements and are
compatible with Plug and Play and Microsoft(R) Windows(R)95 systems.

Cardinal Technologies Inc. manufactures modems and ISDN adapters for computers, which allow
